This
Friday evening we will begin our long
anticipated gospel meeting with Ed Wharton.
Brother Wharton is highly sought after in the
brotherhood for his sound Bible teaching and
particular expertise in Christian Evidences and
the subject at hand for this series of
lessons—The Distinctive Nature of the New
Testament Church. Never has the challenge been
greater for the church to be reminded of who she
is and for what she is here. To quote Ed,
“Christianity is not a hodge-podge wherein every
man may do that which is right in his own eyes.”
Biblical, New Testament Christianity is “ordered
after a pattern”. These lessons will give you a
good grasp of that pattern and whet your
appetite for further study.
If you
will do your part in making this meeting a
success you will do a great service to the Lord,
to his church and to a world that is thoroughly
confused when it considers what God wants of
man. You will be far less likely to be “tossed
to and fro by the waves and carried about by
every wind of doctrine” (Ephesians 4:14). God
will use you to make the church stronger not
only today but also in generations to come.
Here
are some ways that you can help make this gospel
meeting a success:
-
Pray that the truth
will be taught with boldness,
kindness and clarity. There can be
no true success in any endeavor if
God is not in it.
-
Invite others. You
have friends, family and neighbors
that can not be reached by anyone
else as effectively as they can by
you. You may be making the
difference of eternity with an
invitation.
-
Be here for every
lesson and be on time. Such shows
courtesy to the speaker and all
others that are assembled. But more
than that, it shows reverence for
God.
-
Be friendly and
introduce yourself to visitors. “Let
brotherly love continue. Do not
neglect to show hospitality to
strangers, for thereby some have
entertained angels unawares”
(Hebrews 13:1-2). The impression
others have of Long Creek is
dependent upon you.
-
Come prepared to
learn. That may mean you’ll want to
take notes during the lesson, follow
along in your Bible or get the
recording so you can study the
subject more slowly. You may be
challenged by some things you don’t
agree with. Examine the Scriptures
to see if these things are so (Acts
17:11).
May
God bless our upcoming weekend with informed
faith and saved souls.
In him,
Brad Fry
