This just in. “General Pace Calls Homosexuality
Immoral”.
That was one of the headlines of the past week
in the news. General Peter Pace, chairman of the
Joint Chiefs of Staff came under fire from some
media outlets and gay advocacy groups for saying
in a Chicago Tribune interview, “I do not
believe the United States is well served by a
policy that says it is OK to be immoral in any
way,”. And the general put adultery between
heterosexuals on the same level. What most
amazed me about this story was the apparent
noteworthiness of the headline. Gasp!
Immoral???!!! Then a news agency reported that,
“A gay advocacy group Tuesday demanded an
apology from the Pentagon’s top general for
calling homosexuality immoral.” The group’s
website stated, “General Pace’s comments are
outrageous, insensitive and disrespectful to the
65,000 lesbian and gay troops now serving in our
armed forces,”. Did I
wake up in the Twilight Zone?
Today we are told over and over
again that we must be a tolerant people. We are
told we must see equal value in all customs,
cultures and value systems. To be otherwise may
get you the label of a “hatemonger” or
“homophobe”. A hatemonger, according to the
definition of some, is one who affirms that
certain behaviors are sinful.
Even some
Christians, possibly intimidated by modern
society and ignorant of biblical instruction,
get squishy about saying without hesitation that
homosexuality is a sin, it is immoral, it is an
abomination to God. Some of them have
bought into the line, “Well, Jesus never
condemned homosexuality.” Jesus never condemned
coming home drunk and abusing your wife and kids
either. Who among us thinks that’s acceptable?
We know these things are wrong because of the
sum total of biblical teaching. For the world to
champion the acceptance of homosexuality as fine
and well is one thing. Read Romans 1:18-32. But
when people who claim to be Christian are among
the cheerleaders of aberrant behavior it causes
one to shake one’s head in wonder. These
Christians who don’t know their Bibles are under
the impression that the Book is either silent or
kind of ambiguous on the topic. Look at the
following verses and see if that seems to be the
case:
You
shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is
an abomination. (Leviticus 18:22)
Understanding this, that the law is not laid
down for the just but for the lawless and
disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for
the unholy and profane, for those who strike
their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the
sexually immoral, men who practice
homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and
whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine,
(1 Timothy 1:9-10)
Do you
not know that the unrighteous will not inherit
the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither
the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor
adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,
nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor
revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom
of God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)
We are commanded by God to be “kind
to all” (2 Timothy 2:24). As Christ’s followers
we are commanded to be kind to homosexuals. But
the greatest unkindness we could show them would
be to tell them that their sin is all right.
God bless you,
